Booth 11 | MP4MNT – Politecnico di Torino

Our Research Group involves researchers determined to contribute to the study and development of materials and processes in the field of micro and nano technologies, applied to different fields of science and technology. MP4MNT, the acronym that identifies us, refers precisely to this: Materials and Processes for Micro and Nanotechnologies. Since its inception, at the end of the 90s, the Group has undergone a strong growth path both in terms of development and improvement of new skills and involvement of new personnel.

The Group’s activities mainly cover 3 application areas:

Technologies for Bio: the primary objective is to contribute to the development of innovative solutions and devices for applications in the health and biomedical fields, as well as supporting technology transfer in the aforementioned sectors. The main focus is on the progress of early diagnosis and the development of personalized therapies. Starting from a multidisciplinary approach, we develop microsensors, Lab-on-a-chip and in vitro models of organs or physiological functions (Organ-on-Chip) based on micro and nano technologies, microfluidics and 3D bioprinting. All this together with the development and study of new materials useful for regenerative engineering, biology and biosensing.
Energy Transition: we are committed to the development of technologies useful for promoting the energy transition. With our activity we address issues ranging from energy production, recovery and storage. Aiming at carbon neutrality, we also develop carbon-negative approaches and technologies for the capture and reduction of CO2 through electrochemical systems and electrocatalysts, using experimental approaches and simulations. We develop electrochemical systems for the production, storage and use of Green H2, also through the use of bio-electrochemical approaches.
Sensors and Electronics: one of the pillars of our research is related to sensors and their integration. As is known, sensors detect and measure physical and chemical properties, converting this information into data usable in different application fields. A careful study of both the design and the manufacturing of a sensor are necessary to guarantee the performance and reliability of the sensor itself. Similarly, a correct integration of the sensor, and more generally of microelectronic devices including MEMS, can ensure correct and optimal operation, as well as a technological advancement of interest in the industrial application field.

The research and innovation support activities of our Group are conducted at large Infrastructures, often shared with other Departments of Politecnico di Torino or with partner institutions, and dedicated to specific themes or technologies/skills: micro/nanotechnologies and quantum technologies (PiQuET), packaging (Chilab-ITEM), power electronics (PEIC), biomedical and health (PoliTo-BioMedLab and D34Health), sustainability, energy transition and circular economy (iENTRANCE, CO2 Circle Lab, SEASTAR).
